Life during the first trimester

So, because we weren't sharing our news about Baby Tullos until we got a good report from our doctor, I also couldn't really share the experiences of my first trimester either (which is officially over tomorrow!)  I guess I should probably start at the beginning for anyone who might be interested in all the details.

A always said he wanted to find out with me, so one Sunday afternoon I broke the news that four days late was just too much for me.  We took a very nervous trip to Walgreens and then back home for the results.  We both saw the results at the same time.  I had to go sit down, he was bouncing around the room - definitely not the way I was expecting that to go!  I don't think we talked about anything else for the rest of the day.  I called the next day for a doctor's appointment, which would be a month away! So, in the quest for more information, we bought What to Expect When Expecting , information overload!  That book holds every little tiny piece of information you probably never want to know about being pregnant.  On the bright side, I do feel very well educated after I read a new chapter of the book.   - While on the subject of books, I would definitley recommend The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy, much funnier and less scary. (Thanks Jennifer!)

The next few days were great.  I was getting excited and starting to enjoy the thought of being pregnant (which by the way, "expecting" is such an odd way of putting it, but just saying "I'm pregnant" feels weird too.  I haven't decided what term I like.)  This didn't last much longer.  By about the fifth day, I hated it.  I suffered from an extreme case of early morning - mid morning - noon - afternoon - evening - sickness.  I never wanted to eat anything, but felt even worse when I didn't eat.  This was not fun for me at all and I think it pretty much terrified A.  He was very sympathetic to my feeling and concerned for Baby, but I think also a little afraid of upsetting me.  This phenomenon has continued through the first three months and I am hoping will continue throughout the rest of the pregnancy.  I don't think I've gotten my way this much since we first started dating!

The first doctor's appointment was quite an event.  Seeing the baby was pretty amazing and made it all a little more real.  We had originally planned to share our news after this appointment, but after seeing all the test they do and talking to the doctor, we decided to wait until after the next visit (12 weeks) to make sure everything was as it should be and share our news with confidence.  The second appointment did not include another ultrasound, but we did get to hear Baby T's heartbeat.  We knew then, with good test results and a strong heartbeat, that Baby T was doing great and we were clear to tell the world!

This last week has been much better.  I have been feeling a lot less sick, but I would still like to sleep about 12 hours a day!  I am starting to have serious issues with my jeans though.  I have always had the problem of "if they fit my behind, they fall off my waist and if they look like they would fit my waist, they won't even go over my behind."  Well now, they fit my behind but barley button.  I didn't know I would be fighting with my clothes this soon.  I'm just glad its getting warm enough to wear dresses everyday and not even think about pants!

We are starting to talk about names and the nursery and EVERYTHING we will need, but most of those decisions will have to be put off until late June when we find out if Baby Tullos is a boy or girl.  I think this is the longest blog I have ever written!  Now that the news is out, I will try to update whoever might read this a little more regularly. :)

Such a great post. Thanks for the details, and please keep posting so that I can feel like I'm a part of this. I mean, I've been a part of everything since like 10th grade. Love you.
