Jacob's Birthday Weekend

We had such a fun and busy weekend - this is going to be a long post!

Friday was Jacob's birthday and I'm sure he didn't actually know that,  but he knew something special was going on.  He was in such a good mood when he woke up and was happy all day.  It was adorable!

Friday morning, we celebrated at the Maumelle Mommy and Me Halloween party.  He loved being in his costume and laughed at everyone else in theirs!

He enjoyed some yummy snacks and watched the bigger kids run around and play some games.

Later Friday, his Kay-Kay and Papa (my parents) came to our house and we got started on all the cooking and decorating.  We worked hard that night and Saturday morning, but it was all worth it.  Jacob's party turned out really cute with perfect weather.  We couldn't have asked for a better day!

Teddy Bear and Mia (A's parents) Annie, and a lot of Jacob's friends came to celebrate with him.  He had so much fun with so many people to play with and, of course, loved all the attention!  Jacob also loved his cake!  I think he would have eaten the whole thing if we didn't stop him!

His friend Ethan wanted a bite!

After a quick clean up and wardrobe change, Jacob opened his presents.

And he had lots of help!

Saturday night, we had a little fun with all his birthday balloons.  I tied them to his diaper just to see what he would do, and he loved it!  He crawled around and climbed all over everything, balloons in tow.

 Could this be any cuter?

Sunday afternoon, A and I took Jacob to a few trunk or treats around town.  He loved getting to wear his costume again and he knew exactly what to do!  He did not hesitate to reach into the bowls and take as much candy as he could get.  I'm pretty sure trick or treating with him tonight will be fun!
As you can see, we had a very busy weekend, but it was wonderful!  We appreciate everyone that came to celebrate with us and especially our families that helped so much!  I'll try to post a belated 12 month post and more Halloween pictures later this week.

happy Monday!

Happy Birthday Jacob!

Happy Birthday!  Has it really been a whole year? Already?  Seems like it hasn't been that long since this...
And now, we have a happy, healthy, busy, mischevious, adorable birthday boy!
I will have a much longer and way too cute birthday weekend post for you next week.  We have SO much planned for this weekend, family in town, a birthday party, trunk-or-treating, costumes parties, and many other cute photo ops.  But until then, my to-do list is taller than me and I better get started!

I hope you have a Happy Friday - I know we will!

Weekend Update

We didn't make it to the football game last weekend, but we did make the best of our unexpected weekend at home.  I took Jacob to a little fall festival in town.  He wasn't really interested in the trunk or treating, but he and his friends were all big fans of the firetruck!

Later Saturday afternoon, I convinced A that Jacob needed to go pumpkin patch and I'm so glad we went! We went on a hayride out to the pumkin patch and picked our pumpkins.  The hayride might not have been the best idea for our allergies, but it was worth it.  It was a lot of fun and Jacob really seemed to enjoy it!

We took advantage of the fall scene to take a few pictures.  The family photo is not the best, but the picture of Jacob was just too cute!  He was so excited about the whole day!

 Happy Monday!

Five Reasons My Friday is Fabulous

It's been a long time since I did a fabulous Friday post, so I think it's about time to start again.
- disclaimer:  my Friday is not fabulous, A seems to have caught what Jacob had last weekend and we will not be going to visit friends after all :( I'm trying to cheer myself up about missing out on friends, football, and tailgating

1. Jacob is feeling much better and seems like he will have a good weekend with us.  That is fabulous for baby and parents too!

2. A and I just had lunch at Chipolte to try to boost his feeling today.  It was our first time to try it and it was awesome!

3. The weather is gorgeous!  I love this time of year, when it cools off just enough to not break into a full sweat walking outside, but not enough to need a coat.  Wonderful.

4. I worked really hard and tackled all my to-do list last weekend because I thought we would be out of town this weekend.  Now we're staying home and my list is empty.  I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend, I just hate that A feels so bad.

5. I have officially survived two weeks of 5:30 am gym classes.  I'm pretty proud of myself.  Most people that know me, know the only way I'm awake that early is if I haven't been to sleep yet.  It's an accomplishment.

And a bonus #6 - Jacob hasn't been written up for anything at daycare all week!  (I'm sure it's mostly because he has felt bad.)  Yes, he's been written up before.  They get written up for getting in trouble and/or getting injured.  Either way,  five times in two days is not good.
  • Biting himself so hard his lip bled, twice.  I don't understand his reasoning for this one!  Discovering new teeth?
  • Smashing his finger in the cabinet he wasn't supposed to be trying to open
  • Diving for a toy, missing, and landing on his forehead on the floor (he got a pretty good bruise)
  • And last but not least, biting a little girl.  I felt so bad about this one!  I've really tried to teach him to be nice to girls!
He also pulled his teacher's pants down, but didn't get written up for that one!  We definitely have our hands full with Jacob!

I hope your Friday is Fabulous too!

Our week...

has not been the best.  Jacob woke up Saturday morning with a fever and did not feel good all day.  He took a four hour nap!  He just sat around and watched everything we did.  We knew something was wrong when he wanted to sit in our laps and just be still.  Sunday morning he seemed to be feeling better, so we went to church.  Well, that wasn't the best idea.  The girl in the nursery that always takes him and loves playing with him was waiting in the hall as we came back to get him with a very exasperated "there you are!"  Uh-oh.  Jacob never cries when we leave him anywhere and he loves the nursery, but not Sunday.  She said he cried the whole time!  Poor thing :( So we took him back home and he napped for most of the afternoon.  Sunday also brought lots of eye drainage (sorry, I know that's gross) and congestion so A and I decided he needed to go to the doctor Monday morning.  I have to say, this is pretty much the first time he's been very sick.  He's had a runny nose before, but nothing like this.  The doctor said he had a cold, an infection in his eyes (from the cold) and a bad double ear infection.  I felt so bad for him!  He started antibiotics right away and is feeling so much better.  He's almost back to his old self!   I'm glad too, because we're going to visit friends this weekend and didn't want to have to take a sick little boy on a road trip.

In other non-Jacob-related news, (is there such a thing anymore?)  I took advantage of all the extra nap time this weekend to tackle some projects I found on Pinterest.  I do not have pictures of my actual projects, didn't have THAT much extra time, but I will post the pictures that inspired my projects.

My wreath looks a little different, but it's still really cute and great for the upcoming birthday party decorations.

And this was quite the project, but I'm so glad I did it!  I am thrilled with how well it turned out. I will not, however, say it was easy!  Oil rubbed bronze spray paint to refinish hardware.

I've had this idea for a while, but finally got around to doing it.  I used kid friendly fabrics and plan to put the bins in Jacob's room.

And for a few more tasty projects...

The lasagna roll ups were great!  I used spinach, mushrooms, ricotta and Parmesan to make the stuffing and bought marinara sauce.  So yummy!

And this was quite possible the easiest thing I've ever made.  One can of corn, black beans, and rotel, one block of cream cheese, two frozen chicken breast, and one packet of ranch dip mix.  Cook for 6 hours, shred the chicken and add it back.  I topped ours with sour cream.  So good!

Have a great Thursday!

Jacob's (early) Birthday Party

We all went to New Albany last weekend to attend a friend's wedding and to have an early birthday party for Jacob.  I knew it would be tough for all of my family to make the trip to our house, but I wanted them to be a part of his first birthday.  I'm not sure if Jacob really knew what was going on, but he knew he liked it!  He had so much fun seeing everyone and opening his gifts.  Now, I just have to find somewhere to put it all...

Jacob loved opening his gifts.

And all the great food Kay-Kay prepared.

His new golf clubs were a big hit!

He couldn't get them out fast enough!

Will helped out when Jacob got distracted.

Thanks everyone for celebrating with me!

The cake was so cute! Jacob shared his birthday party with Papa.

He also had fun playing with his cousins, Kaylie and Caroline...

 and Will and Caleb.

Being silly with daddy

Jacob was pretty well behaved at the wedding, unless you count talking through the whole thing!

We were all three pretty tired and glad to be home Sunday night, but we had a great time visiting with friends and family.  And Jacob got some great practice for his birthday party that will be coming up at the end of the month!

happy Tuesday!
